Torva used to be a art of Helme parish, one of the oldest parishes in Estonia. The first written records of Helme date back to 1329. Torva was officially declared a town on Jan 1, 1927. Torva is at the River Öhne. The population of Torva: 3500.

Torva Gymnasium

Torva Gümnaasium gives basic and general secondary education to students from 7-19 years old. Basic school(forms 1-9) is compulsory and ends with three exams. After finishing basic school students can get secondary education within three school-years.(forms 10-12) At the end of form 12 students have to take five exams( at least three state exams included).Students study compulsory and elective subjects, the school year lasts for 35 weeks with four vacations. Five-mark system is used for grading. In Torva Gümnaasium it is also possible to take the driver’s course and get the driver’s licence in form 12, otherwise it is just an ordinary school with no subjects deeply studied.

Leisure activities of Estonian students:

  • Hobby clubs: Drama club, French, Handcraft, Folk dance, Choir singing, Art club, Floristics, Sport club, Country study and local Iore and others.
  • Our students often take part in contests and competitions in different subjects
  • Estonian students like to have school parties and meet friends.
